The Imo Pilots Transport Association, IMPTA, said it will co-operate with the Imo State Commissioner for Transport, Chief Lasbery Okaforanyanwu and other government appointees to improve the welfare of Taximo drivers and keke operators in the state.

Speaking with the Daily Nigerian Horn in his office at Heroes Square, Concorde Avenue, the president of IMPTA, Comrade Nnamdi Okorie, JP, said the union has perfected strategies to establish a symbiotic relationship with the transport commissioner saying whatever happened in the past between the union and the commissioner is now a by gone.

Okorie further stated that the welfare of IMPTA members are paramount in his agenda saying most of these taximo drivers and keke operators suffered in the battle to enthrone the present government.

The Healing School

On the purported disagreement with the transport commissioner on the control of Taximo, the IMPTA boss said the issue have been amicably resolved describing the commissioner as a hard working and intelligent man who played a vital role in the taxi scheme, but however advised political appointees to learn to mind their respective offices and allow the union to run its affairs.

Okorie averred that the taxi scheme is a promise by governor Rochas Okorocha to keke operators in 2011 which he has now fulfilled saying everything about taximo is meant for keke operators which the governor graciously handed over to the union.

Said he, “We don’t have any quarrel with the commissioner.

It was lack of proper information and the matter have been resolved amicably. Since the Taximo started we have been working very well with him. He is an intelligent man, hard working and committed to the government. Taximo is a promise fulfilled to keke people by His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and by God’s grace, he has proved doubting Thomasses wrong by making keke people car owners.

We are grateful to him and to others especially his wife, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, Chief of Staff Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. The governor is our founder, mentor and leader of all keke operators in Imo State and he recognized IMPTA as the umbrella body of keke unions in the whole state. Because of his love for us, we will continue to love him, support his programmes and treat him as our leader.

I want to use this opportunity to appeal to other keke operators who have not gotten the Taximo to be patient as His Excellency is working out modalities to bring more cars to be distributed to those who did not benefit from the present exercise. This is the first phase and more are coming. Let us continue to support Owelle’s programmes and pray for him. He meant well for all Imo people.” I also want to advise government appointees to mind their own ministries and leave us to manage our union to benefit our members.

Meanwhile Comrade Okorie has appealed to Imolites at home and in diaspora to see governor Okorocha as God-sent and support his programmes especially the urban renewal programme and the free education programme embarked since inception of this regime.
