The Owerri Senatorial Zone has been described as the greatest beneficiary of the government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Making the revelation is the Imo State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief (Engr) Emma Ojinere while addressing some journalists on some issues in the state at the weekend in his residence..
He observed that the developmental activities of the government has been focused in the capital city of Owerri by virtue of its location as the headquarter of the state. He reeled out a number of projects that are concentrated in Owerri town and its suburbs.
The Honourable Commissioner recalled the many schools that have been refurbished and the new ones that were established. These include the City School Owerri now occupying the erstwhile Township School as the Secondary Unit while the Primary Section is located at the Former Fire Service Unit.
Ojinere reminded that while the Urban Renewal Program cuts across the state, Owerri Zone still remains the greatest beneficiary. According to him the decongestion of Owerri by moving out the markets has not only reduced the crime wave witnessed around the Douglas road which made life quite unbearable for Owerri residents.
He further observed that the movement of residents to the new places of business has helped to open up the new areas thus creating a new city around those places. ”You can see areas that were previously bush now occupied by ultra-modern structures and the quest for lands in these places have suddenly shut up the estate values of the locations”, he stated.
In addition he recalled that some of the moribund industries in the state have been concessioned and those in Owerri Zone were not left out. Specifically he identified the Shoe Industries in Owerri and the once Resin Industry at Mbaise which is managed by Skyrun.
The Resin Paint Industry, a legacy industry from the administration of late Sam Mbakwe, the former governor of Imo State according to the Owerri East Senatorial aspirant is now engaged in two lines of products.
